TCF Canada Cost: Exam Fees by Country
TCF Canada is administered by France Éducation International through local test centers — usually Alliance Française branches — and each center sets its own price in local currency. That means the fee you pay in Mumbai, Lagos, Douala, or Toronto can differ by more than double once you convert everything to the same currency. Below is a general sense of what candidates report paying, but treat every figure here as a starting estimate, not a quote: confirm the exact, current price with your specific test center before you budget or register.
What the fee actually covers
The standard TCF Canada registration covers all four skills required for Express Entry and most economic immigration programs: compréhension orale (listening), compréhension écrite (reading), expression orale (speaking), and expression écrite (writing). Some centers let you register for listening and reading only if that's all a specific program requires, which costs less — but most candidates need all four for immigration purposes, so double-check what your target program requires before registering for a partial test.
Approximate fees by country
- Canada: around CAD $390 for the full four-skill test at most Alliance Française centers, with some centers ranging from roughly CAD $340 to $450.
- India: roughly ₹25,000–28,000 (including GST), which works out to around USD $300–340 depending on the exchange rate and center.
- Nigeria: commonly cited in the USD $180–300 range, though centers may bill in naira at the prevailing exchange rate.
- Cameroon: often quoted around 100,000–150,000 FCFA.
- Senegal: often quoted around 125,000–140,000 FCFA.
- Côte d'Ivoire: often quoted around 130,000–150,000 FCFA.
- United Kingdom: around £396 for the full test at some centers (roughly £99 per skill).
We couldn't find reliably current, center-verified pricing for every country here — Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, and the Philippines among them. If your country isn't listed, search for your nearest approved TCF Canada center (often an Alliance Française or Institut Français) and ask directly; fees are set locally and change periodically, so a number found online can be stale within a year.
Extra costs beyond the base fee
Budget for these on top of the headline exam price:
- Cancellation or transfer fees. Many centers charge a non-refundable fee (around CAD $100 at Canadian centers) if you cancel or reschedule after registering.
- Retake fees.If you don't hit your target CLB band, a retake means paying the full fee again — there's usually no discounted repeat rate.
- Prep courses or tutoring. Optional, but a common added cost if you go beyond self-study.
- Travel. If there's no test center in your city, factor in transport or an overnight stay for exam day.
How to avoid paying for a retake
The single biggest cost-control lever is knowing your level before you register, so you don't book the exam too early and pay twice. Our free CLB estimate mini-test and free practice questions are built for exactly that — get a sense of where you stand at no cost before committing to an official test date.
