TCF Canada Exam Fees in Canada: CAD $390 (2026)
TCF Canada is administered across Canada through Alliance Française centers, coordinated via a single national registration system at alliance-francaise.ca. Unlike some countries where each center prices independently, Canadian centers largely follow one published national fee — making this one of the more predictable TCF Canada markets to budget for.
The fee
The total cost of the TCF Canada exam in Canada is a flat CAD $390 for the full four-skill test. A few centers have listed slightly different amounts in the past (roughly CAD $340–450), so confirm the current price for your specific center at registration — but $390 is the standard, nationally published figure as of 2026.
What's included
The TCF Canada must be taken as a complete exam — you cannot register for individual skills. The $390 fee covers all four components required for Express Entry and most Canadian economic immigration programs:
- Compréhension écrite (reading) — 60 minutes, 39 multiple-choice questions
- Compréhension orale (listening) — 35 minutes, 39 multiple-choice questions
- Expression écrite (writing) — 60 minutes, 3 written tasks
- Expression orale (speaking) — about 12 minutes, 3 oral tasks
Registration
Registration is entirely online: create an account on the Alliance Française site, choose your exam date and center, complete the candidate questionnaire, and pay the $390 fee by card. Registrations are not accepted in person or by phone, and there's no way to reserve a seat without paying upfront.
Cancellation and retake fees
- Cancellation. A CAD $100 non-refundable administration fee applies if you cancel or transfer your registration — up to 15 days before a computer-based session, or up to 30 days before a paper-based session. Cancelling closer to the date than that risks losing the full fee, not just the $100.
- Retakes. You can retake the exam as often as you like, but there must be a minimum 20-day gap between two sessions, and each retake costs the full $390 — there's no discounted repeat rate.
How to avoid paying for a retake
At $390 a sitting, the real cost risk isn't the base fee — it's registering before you have a realistic sense of your level and having to pay again. Our free CLB estimate mini-test and free practice questions are built for exactly that — get a sense of where you stand before committing to an official test date and the $390 fee.
